Heart Failure Explained

Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, is a chronic condition in which the heart cannot pump blood efficiently enough to meet the body’s needs. This can result from various heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, heart valve disease, and cardiomyopathy. In heart failure, the weakened heart struggles to pump blood forward or fill with blood effectively, leading to symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and fluid buildup in the legs, ankles, and lungs. Heart failure is a serious, progressive disease that requires ongoing management, as it can impact multiple organs and significantly affect quality of life.
